The Heerenveen defender has been out of action for nearly 18 months, but has now confirmed that he is fit enough to play. "I'm fit enough to play," Hilgers said in an interview with VoetbalPrimeur. "It's been 500 days, but I'm in the squad for the first time in a long time. I'm not sure if I'll get any minutes, but I'm ready and feeling good."
Hilgers has not played for Heerenveen since the start of the season, when he made the switch from FC Twente. The defender's last official game was on May 25, 2025, and he has been out of action due to injury. Despite missing out on Indonesia's ASEAN Cup win, Hilgers is now set to make his return to the Eredivisie.
Hilgers is expected to make his debut for Heerenveen in their upcoming match against PSV.
