Verschueren, who joined Beveren from FC Twente in the summer, has been training with the team but has yet to start a match. He attributes this to not being fully match-fit after his transfer. The midfielder has played three times as a substitute for Beveren but is eager to prove himself in the starting lineup. "I'm not worried about it, because I wasn't match-fit either," Verschueren said. He also reflected on his time at Twente, where he was forced to train separately with other players who were set to leave the club.
Verschueren hopes to make a name for himself in Belgium, where he is less well-known than in the Netherlands. "I'm very well-received here and I want to prove myself," he said. "I'm certainly more famous in the Netherlands than in Belgium. I haven't played many matches in the Belgian first division."
Beveren will face Lommel SK, a team Verschueren previously played for, on Friday evening.
