Manchester United's dismal form has left the club's hierarchy questioning Michael Carrick's position as head coach. The latest blow came on Sunday when the team lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. This was the second damaging result in five days, following a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday. The club's poor form has seen them go eight games without a win in all competitions and sit 16th in the Premier League, just a point above the relegation places.

ESPN sources have revealed that the club are considering replacing Carrick with Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann, both of whom are currently out of work. Former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe and ex-Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann are among the contenders for the role. Manchester United spent time doing due diligence on a number of coaches before deciding to hand Carrick a two-year contract in May.

Speaking after the defeat to Bournemouth, Carrick insisted he was in the dark about his future, saying "I totally understand the situation. I'm not expecting anything in particular, to be honest. Carrying on as normal." The club's next move remains uncertain, but it is clear that Carrick's position is under threat.
